Thanks for the link. I'll be doing it tomorrow whilst Ian is helping our eldest lad erecting his new garden shed. :-D

I'll sit at the livingroom window and count the ones that show up at the feeder today. They usually don't trickle in, they seem to have a feeding schedule.
Some days they are at my feeders early morning, some days mid-afternoon and some days late afternoon and once they have been here enmass they don't show up again until the next day. The Cardinals are the only ones who seem to call my yard their home base and are here a lot during the day.

We have participated some this morning. Tomorrow, we'll go out to the lake and slog through the snow, have a fire in the fire pit and enjoy! Its so much fun to really focus on our feathered friends.
Two years ago, we had a Varied Thrush with us for several weeks during this time of year. He was well out of his normal range. He was really gregarious with a flock of Robins. He made the local paper thanks to a friend at the paper, and a very talented photographer who came out to see him. Fun! ;)

I did a 20 minute count at lunch today and it was pretty busy. I plan to count again tomorrow & Sunday too.
For those who have not participated this is how you count. " write the highest number of birds of each species that you saw together at any one time. For example, if you watched a flock of Dark-eyed Juncos for 15 minutes and saw 3 juncos at a feeder, then 5, then 2, you would report 5, the highest number your saw at once, next to the name, "Dark-eyed Junco." Do not add the numbers together (not 3 + 5 + 2)."

Here is my total for today's viewing:
    16 american goldfinch
    12 mourning dove
    4 cardinals
    3 dark eyed junco
    2 tufted titmouse
    2 white throated sparrow
    2 black capped chickadee
    2 house finch
    1 blue jay
    l red bellied woodpecker
    1 carolina wren
    1 pine warbler

    and l chipmunk & 2 squirrels...and that's when the count ended for today ;)

This is the pine warbler (I have only had 1 all winter), he ususally shows up with the goldfinches. At first I thought he was just a very yellow goldfinch

That Pine Warbler is a real looker, Gail.
It looks like you had a very decent count. It is really good of you to participate in this. It will help I am sure.

I shall be watching to see the postings of any subsequent count postings.
