Hi everyone. Yesterday I came across a Guara lindheimeri at the garden center and adored the little white blossoms and tall fronds. They really do look like whirling white butterflies when the wind blows gently.

Anyone have experience with this plant? I've read that it sets a taproot and has a pretty big root system, doesn't like to be moved once established...so I want to think carefully about where to place it. How big around will it get ultimately? I'm wondering too, if it needs to be in a somewhat protected spot so the wind doesn't damage those lovely fronds...

I may have to expand bed and move some things around, then buy some new things to go with it... oh darn :-D . Anyone have any ideas about what looks pretty with it?

    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I forgot about that taproot fall before last and dug mine up to transplant them...they died. They also come in Pink, a combination mass planting is really pretty.

They don't get very wide compared to the height, Their width is higher off the ground than a mounding plant but generally that width is about 18"-24" If you have more than one you can plant them closer together to make a really nice mass.

Full sun and they are stronger than they look so unless you get constant hurricane force winds I wouldn't worry about a windy day hurting them.

Photo #10 is a bed of Gaura lindheimeri at Weston Gardens Demonstration Garden. There are several in that bed, they are very close and loving it. I don't remember what they planted with them but just about anything would work depending on your bed design.
