Guess what we bought yesterday!!! We bought a bridge! We went to a yard sale. The woman was moving to Texas and was selling everything that wasn't nailed down. We asked about the yard ornaments and she said,"Everything!" I noticed a bridge across a small wash and told Brian that was a bridge like he was talking about building across our small wash. So, he asked her if the bridge was for sale and she said,"Yes!" So, he bought it. It's about six foot long and about 30 inches or 36 inches wide. It curves up and over and then down. I wanted to take a picture of it. Brian says I have to wait for flowers to grow around it. It's still too cold for many flowers but soon. I can put some pansies in pots around it. The wash only has water when we have a lot of rain. A pipe drains the water out of the garden, into the little wash which drains out into a pipe and into the alley. Brian set it up so we wouldn't have a lake in the backyard when it rains. Of course, we haven't had much or any rain for about 120 days now. Measurable rain, we've had that drizzle. So, maybe I could sneak the camera out and get a picture? Dooley
Sounds great dooley! I'm sure it was a nice bargain. Anxiously awaiting a photo 8) How have you crossed the small wash until now? Jumped?
Dooley, Congrats on the bridge. I would love to have one in the backyard....guess I would have to have something for it to "bridge across" too. I did find a small one in a catalog that I want to order. Looking forward to a picture of the bridge with or without the plantings Toni
It is a small wash. Only a foot or so across. We generally just hop across. The dog spends some time exploring up and down looking for who knows what. Brian just wanted a bridge over it. It looks good. It's painted white. He says we need to get a big flagstone piece for each end of it. So, maybe next month we'll take our trek to northern Arizona and go to the flagstone quarry and see about getting a couple big pieces. Dooley
Oh Dooley I'd love to see a photograph of your bridge. It sounds great. We can have a 'before and after' piccies so that we see what it looks like once the plants are around it. A bridge is something I've wanted for over our pond for a while now but they are soooo expensive here. Maybe I'll ask Laura, my daughter, to build me one during the summer. I supply the materials and all she asks in payment for her work is petrol money and food.
That sounds like a good idea. This one is painted white. It needs a little paint on the rails but otherwise is in good shape. Brian has been thinking of building one since we put in the small wash to take out the water. Our neighbors yard is higher and when we do have rain the water pours out of his yard into our garden. So we made a gravel path across the garden to a pipe that goes under the fence and empties into the little wash and goes out under the fence into another pipe into the alley. We are having a glider and a sun shelter for summer. Dooley
