My ferns were left out in the cold. Is that the reason they look like this? What can I do to help them? :'(

For the time being they will look terrible. But the good news is they will recover. Just shear them off. That will get rid of all the foliage that got frozen and keep the plant from dropping all the leaves making a mess and looking terrible.. Keep an eye on them and place them someplace fairly humid and warm and they should bounce back.

Agree with carolyn. Your plant should grow new fronds but keep the wilted and bad ones as you see them. They can do more harm than you realize.

Yes, do cut off the damaged fronds--they will provide habitat for fungus, as well as looking pretty sad. Ferns normally lose their leaves and have cold die-back when they are planted outside, so this is no tragedy for your potted ones.

I had a couple of ferns that suffered some serious freeze damage last winter. I thought they were completely dead. They came back big and strong like nothing ever happened to them.
    So your's should be okay.

My ferns have been hit by heavy frosts, have been buried under feet of snow and have been almost drowned by torrential rain BUT they always come back the following year.
