A coopers hawk called today. I was sitting at a table, camera at hand, next to the window where I hand feed the birds. A bird must of been chased by this hawk, with the bird having more maneuverability, I didn't see it, the hawk hit the window and I then saw it, up close as it flew onto an arch near a witch hazel. It opened the window and took a few pictures.
Now that's what I call a steely gaze!! Thank goodness you had your camera handy because you photograph is superb.
Islandlife your photographs are really something!! I have always loved birds of prey, especially owls, and I can now look at yours and Kildale's to my hearts content. Thank you.
Kildale--we also have this Hawk bomb our feeders at the front of our home also. It usually misses, but a week ago it caught a Red Bellied Woodpecker. I was so sad to see that happen as we love all of our birds. The Coopers Hawk will fly in and sit on top of the feeder and look around for any stragglers to try and catch. This pic I took of him sitting in the tree in our front yard near the feeders.
