Hello there fellow horticulturalists. My name is Sean from Long Island, New York.

    Zone 7B.

I finally took the plunge and started gardening this year. And my word, what a mess!

Blight, aphids, not enough sun, too much rain, shade everywhere.

Hopefully we'll make it through this :)

    God bless.

    Sean from LI

Sean just imagine your satisfaction when the mess has been cleared and you see the first sprouts appear from the seeds you've planted. That's what gets you hooked and makes you into a gardener. Well, at least, it did for me!!

Welcome to The Stew from Scotland.

Sean, welcome to the wonderful world of gardening! We all have set-backs in weather, with insects, and sometimes just plain stubborn seeds! But we soldier on and eventually harvest, which is one of the best feelings in the world.
Please keep us updated on your progress, ask any questions you may have, and just enjoy the Stew!

    Hi Sean and welcome.

Here in North-West England, we haven't seen rain in over a week! As a county we have a lot of rain in the year, but a couple of weeks of sun can bring a hosepipe ban!

    Hello Sean,
It is all go in the garden here trying to keep plants watered mainly and we get so many varied temps here of late you never know what your getting next..Well know storms on there way but that is normal with our sudden 35 degrees..bring down the rain I say..no wind though that is a wrecker...We realise that different areas have different strong plants...go for them at first and you will be more successful, which will have a knock on affect for you..some payback for your hard work.....water somewhere in the garden is to me essential..whether a wild life pond..small works well so no big deal to establish one... and you will be surprised how that liven's up the interest to do more......

Thanks for the suggestion. In my case, standing water where I live leads to mosquitos and their associated dangers. West Nile virus has become a concern in the New York area the past few years/ decade.
