I know I am a little weird but I prefer to start anyhting I can from seed and not a cutting. Are there any good houseplants that you can start from seed? I prefer bushy and thick or long vines with lots of foliage but anything I can start from seed would make me really happy. About philodendrens, can they be started from seed or do they even flower?
I think it would depend on the plant you are wanting to grow. Some flower and have seeds but they are sterile so they don't germinate. Some will not come true from seed. Philodendron are native to the tropics where they grow in the rain forest and are huge,8' wide and the leaves about 2'long. Grown indoors they never reach that size, thank goodness , but they also will not flower. They have to be large and almost 20 years old before they bloom.
It don't matter to me. Long green vines, bushy bushes, long spears, anything that I can grow from seed and get a nice big pleasant looking plant from it.
To get a start on finding what plants you might want go to PlantStew, click on Advanced Plant Search, enter the word Houseplant and check out the plants that are listed to find some that are propagated by seed.
