No idea where they came from—they’re super small but keep crawling to the surface. Should I be worried?
Snails hatch out all the time from eggs in the soil. You need to squish 'em or they will eat your plants.
Those are decollate snails. As well as eating green stuff, they also eat garden snails and slugs - yum yum, a very varied diet. Apparently they are usually found in the Mediterranean countries, where they were introduced from Israel and Egypt. They, just like ordinary garden snails come out to play in wet weather and do most damage when you're not looking. I found a link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decollate_snail
Oh my god, please no! Luckily, I haven’t noticed any damage to the plants yet. I tried leaving them outside the soil, and the ants would find and eat them. They seem to mostly stay hidden in the soil—it’s impossible to squash them all. I’ve never seen them on the leaves, so maybe they’re eating the roots? I need to find a plant-safe way to get rid of them for good.
Mmm… Escargot…No wait wrong snail. I used to order décollate snails because they eat snail eggs and those fat round shelled snails that feast on our garden plants. They help keep the snail population down that eats our garden plants.
