I've been trying to get a picture of this guy for days and today was my chance. He let me get close enough to get his colors. He shined like gold in the sun.

I hope someone can ID this hawk.

That hawk has been hanging around for a few days. I took some pictures of the same hawk yesterday but haven't uploaded them to see what I have. He sure is beautiful when he flies. dooley

The Red-tailed Hawk is the most common in Texas, but there are others too.

This is not a red-tailed hawk. From the book I have I'd rather say he is a red shouldered hawk but I really can't tell from the pictures. Maybe I'll google it and see if it looks the same. Whatever it is, I like it. dooley

That is a beautiful bird, Glenda. Is the black slate-gray? What colour are his legs?
    I think it's fun to look-up or learn birds I don't know.

Sjoerd I was looking at the red around his head and the brillant gold on his body more than anything but the best I can remember it had light gray legs.
Thanks for all the great comments.

Great pictures...I need some here to take care of my overpopulation of rabbits. They're feasting on a lot of my shrubbery again this winter!
