This plant grew quickly and originally we thought it was a sunflower. It is now laying down because of intense rain yesterday, however prior to that was about 5 feet tall having gotten that way in about 2 1/2 weeks. The stalk is thick and stems come off in twos, the lower stem has one leave and the upper stem has many. The upper stem is reddish and the stalk has some red tint to it. No flowers or berries seen and it is not waxy or hairy. Curious as to what it is. We live in Phoenix AZ. Have thought of pokeweed, burdock, rhubarb - none of those.c

I have no clue ! If you have a local garden club I bet they would know. Or take a sample to your county agent. They will know or can find out what it is.

The first picture makes me think that this is some kind of amaranth.

Looks like pokeweed to me. Try looking up Phytolaccaceae. It fits the bill for your area.

It hasn't flowered. I don't think it is pokeweed for many reasons. My husband's family are in the nursery business and none know what it is.

Not one picture of pigweed shows the same double nodule leafing. It might be in that family but not like any of the pictures I can find.

We finally pulled it as I was afraid it might be poisonous and our dog was hanging out around it. Pokeweed got the highest response, although I could never find a photo of one that was exactly like it.

LOL ! I think it was getting late and I was ready for bed. I live with pokeweed,, its everywhere here. We watch the mockingbird eat the berries looking out our window. Have a huge one by the deck. I may not know what it is but I can tell what it isn`t. And it ain`t pokeweed ! :)
