Last Tuesday I went on a bus trip to Longwood Gardens. http://longwoodgardens.org/ It snowed on the bus ride down to the gardens. At least six inches of the white stuff. This years theme was fruit. Many of the Christmas trees had fruit on them. I did not have time to get the names of the plants to the photos. I was on a 90 minute guided tour. Inside the buildings. Hand blown glass pears from California. $325 to buy. Hanging over the apple design in the next photo. Orchids. 18000 apples in the floating design. It took over 18 months experimenting with the varieties of apples to use. Granny Smith and Rome. I took over 100 photos. I'll post more later.
Oh please do! I love photos of garden shows, especially this time of year! I like that third photo, with the white blooms and the Amaryllis poking through it. What do you suppose the white bloom is ... Euphorbia graminea? The fifth photo I really like too, I can just picture standing there too. The hand blown glass pears ... $325 EACH??
I love the way the trees (and the wreath)are all decorated. They must be very trusting to have such expensive ornaments as those pears though. I've never seen a design made up with so many apples before. I wonder how they found so many unblemished ones? The hydrangeas, poinsettias and the amaryllis all look wonderful and so colourful. I look forward to your next batch of photographs Don. :-D
Spectacular scenes such a contrast with blooms and snow,..well captured shots,..looking forward to seeing more,..i would be in awe if there,..i bet you enjoyed yourself,..thank you for sharing.
There is this little hallway there just next to the orchid area that a wall of all kinds of ferns. That is by far my most favorite place. I did get to buy a few of them in their sales area. I just love that place.
