Please pity this dejected girl and send her some fresh white marigold seeds Those packet ones are all stale and never took off. If you have one such plant in your garden, let me have a pic too please.
have never seen white marigolds would love to see them also sorry I can't help you good luck went on a search for them here is a pic they look like wild daisies to me Image source: http://www.123rf.com/photo_1744702_clos ... white.html
I found some last year at either Lowe's or Home Depot. I don't know if you have those stores, but other's like it might carry them.
Hello friends. Nope never heard of the stores listed up there. Am keeping my fingers crossed. Someone must be having them around
Lowe's and Home Depot are home improvement centers which includes a garden supply section. Target is a "general" store that carries clothes, food, appliances, electronics, etc. (like WalMart). These are the one's I grew last year. White Marigold ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) White Marigolds ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Cheryl, your first bloom is splendid. The second picture seems to bear smaller blooms, does it not? Still, they bear that yellowish-cream coloured tint I mentioned earlier. Does this apply to all 'white' marigolds?
Oubee... since it was the first time I grew them, I do not know anything about them... except they were really late blooming... I think in October and I think I planted the seeds in April. They reseeded and are growing great, but no sign of a flower bud yet. Hopefully someone else grows them and give you more info. Edited to add: I just remembered... I did have some a couple years ago. And they also had that yellowish-tint. Their seeds did not sprout. white marigolds ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Theo, don't worry, many people have not heard about it. Guess it's rare which makes it all the more appealing to me! "Their seeds did not sprout." :O Is it such a difficult plant? Yours are lovely nonetheless!
Oubee, these seeds are not readily available like yellow or orange ones and they are a little expensive in comparison. They are also sometimes sterile plants, meaning that no matter what you do the seeds will not grow. I grew them as a trap crop for Japanese Beetles. The beetles were supposed consume them instead of my treasured raspberries. I wasn't sure if the experiment was successful since there were hardly any beetles last year. I wasn't very excited about my plants, they weren't as pretty as cheryl's picture of hers. Mine were tall and lanky and they were the seeds from lowe's.
Hi, here in Australia they can be bought as seedlings ...they are named 'vanilla' marigolds and are lovely pale cream double flower. I thought the name 'vanilla' might help in the search.
