I started some Lotus from seed following Chubbypoptarts instructions from her blog.
    http://chubbysgarden.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-first-experience-with-lotus-seeds.html
I started soaking them on Jan 9th and the sprouts appeared on Jan 15th. I put them in some clay/dirt from the yard on Jan. 17th. They are about 2-4 inches long. They are in the window that faces east. They also get some light from the growlights that are there (for other seedlings).

They just don't look "right". They should be making a leaf but the tip on the tallest one is turning brown. The second sprout at least looked like it was making a leaf, but it is brown also. There's a third sprout trying to make a leaf now too.

So... has anybody grown Lotus from seed? I sent a PM to Chubbypoptart but haven't heard back from her.
Is there anything I need to be doing differently to get these to survive?
    Thanks in advance!

I think I'll sit down with you and wait for an answer from someone knowledgeable. :D I tried sowing waterlilies a few years back and failed magnificently. :D

I'm sorry about that, Cheryl. I would love to try again, and hopefully succeed.

Hello! Anybody know what went wrong here? Whohooo! Down here! Or rather, up there! *points at photo*

I heard from Chubbypoptart... she suggested using non-chlorinated water... wasn't sure if that was the problem... but at least it's something to try.

Wow... mine are about 3 weeks and not even close to yours!
Okay... so I poured out the tap water and refilled with bottled water. I did see a third sprout popping up... so that's encouraging!
I also moved it closer to the grow light to get a little more warmth and light. I also added 2 drops of SuperThrive.
One of the baby leaves still looks promising. Fingers crossed!

Sorry about the double posting... but just had to share an updated photo. The latest leaf has been hanging in there and is actually trying to open.
Plus... there's another sprout from the same seed.

Hope I didn't jinx it by taking it's picture.

I think they are doing much better now! That one leaf is open. And three more are on the way!
