Lush Frilly Green Leaves Off The Main Stem

What is it??? It is beautiful but we suspect it is growing LIKE A WEED....Please help??

 

If you crush the leaves, does it have a distinctive smell?
I am of course thinking of Levisticum officinale.
It is a bit of a wild guess because I do not even know if it exists where you live.
We use this plant in the kitchen

 

That is monkshood I do believe. If I could upload a photo as I took it ....I would show you mine. I actually have one right behind my patio swing... It rarely has time to bloom. It is such a late bloomer I thought no it after gets frozen or frosted out.

It is such a late bloomer it normally gets frosted or frozen as it is ready to bloom.

 

Yes Carolyn...the leaves look like that as well. In fact it may make more sense that what I was thinking.

 

I think it's mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) I'm constantly pulling it along my driveway fence line.

 

My first thought was Monkshood as well Barb.

 

no, it isn't mugwort. I have mugwort too. I also have monkshood and it looks exactly like this. mugwort smells like chrysanthemums and has a grey-green color.

 

Wow, I googled all of those and I don't think it's any of them.

 

I know it is not this (see photo below) but the growth habit is similar. Could they be related?




My plant grows to 6-8 feet (2-2.4 meters) blooms yellow in August. I thought it was centaurea orientalis but I just Googled that plant & it only grows 2 feet tall. Oh dear I don't think I am helping. I think I am adding to the confusion .

I have coneflower on the right, jewelweed at the bottom and smack dab in the center is the monkshood.

I just pulled a bunch of this out of my garden today because I wasn't sure if it was a weed or not. It was a bit invasive. The roots are runner-like, but they are easy to pull out. I was surprised to see someone posted something similar. Maybe we can figure out what they are!

 

? Could it be chrysanthemum?

 

I have chrysanthemums nearby, but they are nice round plants. These grow tall, but I thought they were chrysanthemums at first. It would be nice if they were.
