I remember picking up this plant from the mark down rack around the end of October or first of November. Just to fill in a spot in a bed. I remember not keeping the info tag because I figured it would be dead in a couple of months anyhow.
But to my surprise, it grew well and has not stopped blooming. Even the couple of freezes we had didn't phase it.
It's going to seed now and I really want to put these all over the place! Does anyone recognize it?

I'd guess it's some kind of Dianthus. That's awesome! Whatever it is, I need some!

That's what a friend said, but I kinda remember it being something I had never tried. And this is just a single plant. I've had Dianthus before and don't remember them growing like this. But that's not to say it isn't.
Dang it... why didn't I save that tag! :smt013
Purple, I can send out a few seeds, just let me know.

Here's another photo of them(there in the foreground... taken the beginning of December. Might give another idea of its growing habit. 1206141606.jpg

Most seeds refuse to sprout in my presence, but thank you very much for the kind offer. :)

I believe those are Sweet Williams:flower: I love them! I cleaned out a daylily bed last fall and sprinkled Sweet William seeds in it. I really like the dark colored ones, they all smell very sweet:)

Sweet William would be Dianthus barbatus, as far as I know. .

Dianthus - Sweet William it is! Thanks everyone. I'll never throw away another plant tag. :notworthy:
I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more of these.

Very pretty! The flowers are very large compaired to all the others I have grown. They are a biennial.

I didn't realize there are 2 varieties, short & tall. I've even seen them in floral arrangements and they are perfect. If my bed turns out like I hope it will I'll post a photo this summer

Cheryl, your plants are doing beautifully! I hope you are able to grow babies from the seeds.

:) Cheryl, but seriously, I think they start themselves if you just let them go to seed. Let them do their thing, & stay out of the way! (That's my motto!)
