    I am growing this beauty for the first time. It was a favourite of my dear friend.

    I am struggling with finding information on planter sizes. I'm wondering if this is best as a center of a planter with other flowers around, or having a large planter just with Heliotrope? It will be in a large pot on the deck. I had 12 out of 12 germinate which I didn't expect. I'll be sharing some with friends.

    Has anyone had experience growing Marine Heliotrope that they can share?

    (adding a hopeful nudge @Pacnorwest :) :stew2::flower:)

    I've never grown it but I've always seen it in hanging baskets. I don't see why not put it in a big pot as a spiller with an upright plant in the center and some filler plants between.

    Try adding some Osteospermum. The contrast with the yellow-orange flowers with purple centers is gorgeous!
    Or some lime green sweet potato vine?
    Keep in mind that Heliotrope is toxic to dogs Mel

    Thanks Netty. I appreciate that. I'll definitely keep the caution in mind. I'm lucky that old Angus only has a couple of speeds ( As a pup he had a passion for ripping up paper - including a few favourite novels and a phone book but that was it hahahaha)

    So it sounds like a single Heliotrope in a planter with some contrast flowers is best, rather than one large pot of heliotrope. :) I was a little late starting it so I'm hoping to see flowers this summer. They're about 5 inches tall and bushy. I'm going to keep a couple as a house plant and try to do cuttings next spring.

    I have some Gazanias that I started from seed. I only have about 9 this year, but they may work similar to the African daisies? And I think my neighbours green house is selling sweet potato vine so I will check that out too. :)
