...getting new containers no matter what size they are when i buy plants. Ive slowly been adding to my container stock and they always come in handy. Each new plant i get i eye the container and think of it as a lil extra bonus! Its mostly small ones but they are great for starting my plants in. :-D
I don't think it's silly, GN! I get a real satisfaction from having a selection of pots in my garage when I need one for something too. Large, medium, small! Reuse, recycle, right?
My eldest son built me a special two tier shelving unit just to put all my pots on as they were stacked in different places all over the garden. It sits at the side of the greenhouse and comes in very handy. I keep all my containers too from diddy little ones to HUGE ones so you're not in the least bit silly.
Absolutely NOT silly, GN...I always like to have a numerous collection of various sizes and shapes handy. I use them for things other than to hold plants, you see. I say no way one have too many...my bride says..."Way". :-? hahaha. Upon occasion she is moved to pass through the shed like the Grim Reaper collecting souls for the long trip. I say--build-up your collection.
I keep all but the tiny, very thin flimsy ones. All sizes are great for those times when you need to thin out the bed and give some plants away. Most I have because you just never know when they will be exactly what you need!
I'm always on the look out for new containers. I'll drive by a yard sale slowly to see if they have put any pots out and then snag em' before another gardener gets them. I really enjoy finding containers with personality and age. Good luck with your collection.
I too collect garden pots. I recently found one that's clay and has moss on it and it doesn't have a bottom! I turned it upside down over some seeds for plants to grow up through it.
my wife always picks at me for having so many, "why do you need all them?" hehe.. i might have not given enough info on the first post but i am mostly talking about the extra bonus of getting the pot that the plant you buy comes in. Its like i dont have to buy additional pots much due to the fact that the plants i purchase already come with one. i check out the plant and am always looking at what material the pot is made from and if it would be a good keeper. Yeah i usually trash all but the super flimsy..
I've got a stockpile of pots too. I'm always taking some to our friend in Molde since she needs a lot of them, but I've still got a heap to start seeds in, put the plants I'm giving away in or use for storing stuff in.
I collect them too. Every once in a while DH peeks into my shed and threatens to get rid of some. I tell him if he cleans MY garden shed, I get to clean HIS garage! That usually gets rid of him quickly
I like collecting unusual containers. Whilst on a visit to some gardens last weekend I saw a pair of walking boots that had been planted up with succulents which looked very effective, so I told my husband not to throw away his old boots as I can find a use for them
I collect them also. I watch along the roadside garbage, especially in the fall when people start throwing awaying old potted plants. I just pick them up from their roadside garbage and add it a new pot to my supply. Never knew when you just might need that one special pot for that special plant. I'm probably guilty of having too many but you never know when you'll need them.
