Found this guy on a hiking trip in Honeymoon Island located in Dunedin, Florida. Coastal environment, scrub pines, light hammock forests. Any ideas on the specie for this guy? Seems like some sort of leaf mimic. Thanks!

It looks like a Costa Rica leaf moth/Dead-leaf Moth (Oxytenis modestia.) They can look like curled up dead leaves or fallen leaves.

Years ago I seen a very large moth drop out of a walnut tree and land right in front of me. I got a close up photo with my cheap phone. The photo was terrible but good enough to go the internet to identify the moth. It was a Luna moth and on the endangered list for PA. The photo below is from the net. http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ecology/luna_moth.htm I now carry a good point and shoot camera in my pocket with me at all times now.

organicmechanic, Welcome to our little world. I don't know that little bug is but I do love him. Me thinks me is going to get an addition to my tattoo over this one.

jbest123, I found one of those the other day. They say that when we see them and can get that close to them they are at the end of their life. They don't live very long.

I even have one of those on my arm....

Hi jbest123,..great shot,..and what a strange nature it has,..no mouth and does not eat but only lives for a short spell just to breed,..sort of like our Mayfly.

Your a man after my own heart,.. as we say here,..i also always carry a camera of some sort once i leave the house.

Hi Barb,..methinks you have a very interesting skin design,.. 8)
