We also have some wildlife, and they are not ferocious either. Au contraire, they are cute:

They eat slugs, but unfortunately not the brownishyellow once, probably because they are too tough.

Don'y you just love hedgehogs? We have two that snauffle around our garden here in Scotland. They do a great job of keeping the slugs and snails under control. :-D

They sure are cute Droopy! We don't have Hedgehogs in Ontario but I know of a few people who keep them as pets. They eat slugs? What a bonus! Do they root up the gardens or lawn?

I have not seen any hedgehog-damages apart from the odd pooh here and there. Since they hibernate all winter they really clean the garden once they wake up. In addition to the slugs we feed them tinned catfood as a kind of reward.

Too cute!! Wonder if they'd survive outside here? Would be a wonderful addition to my garden for sure, but I'll bet the nature conservitors would not be happy, we are still battling nonnative 'possums.
Then again, when they encounter a lovely bad-smelling something, they do tend to "lather" all over themselves so perhaps no, lol! (ds had a pet one some years ago)

Thank you all for nice comments.

Hedgehogs as pets? I've never heard of it before now. Since they hibernate, will they like to be kept inside all year?

We struggle with non-native mink, and raccoons are spreading out further south.
