It woke me up a bit after midnight. The winds were howling, rain and then hail pelting down. I watched several tree limbs ripped away in both my neighbor's yard and my own. We didn't sustain any significant damage, though it whipped through our open back porch and tore it all to hell.

The path of the tornado moved through sections of East Nashville and downtown, approximately following Interstate 40, which is 5 - 10 minutes down the road from us. It apparently was on the ground for around 40 minutes.

This is a local school 10 minutes away from us and several houses on the same street.

One of of our friends lost their home. Several have minor to major damage. One of my close friends reached out to me last night in tears because her son's girlfriend who drove home from her late shift arrived to find her home destroyed and her mother inside, dead.

All Nashville schools are closed today. Two of the counties that are hardest hit have closed their schools at least for the week.

Interstate 40 is closed in a couple of areas both ways. Several of my friends can't get to work because of damage to roads, subdivisions/live wires etc. A couple more have no work to go to..the building has been destroyed.

    It's bad, folks.

We walked our property to see what's up. Lots of limbs down, some gutters ripped away, the roof of our back porch ripped and rolled up, and some of it in the yard. Cars are OK...I was worried about the hail exploding the windows, but we dodged that bullet thankfully.

One of my friends sent me this. Apartment building on her street. The image is fuzzy...it might take you a minute...that’s a red car that was lifted up and shoved into the middle of the building!

Your photos are not showing up.
But I can imagine the damage done, a few weeks ago 10 tornadoes hit just east and and north of downtown Dallas moving east and north. Most of those 10 were very small, weak ones but when they come together the damage is usually massive.
It will take a few days before an accurate total number and size of tornadoes can be determined
Glad you and yours are okay.

OMG Ronni I'm so glad that you are safe. My heart goes out to all those who have had their homes destroyed and for the families of the people who have died. It's hard for us here in Scotland to understand just how dangerous a tornado can be.

Wow Ronni - that is super awful. Saw it on TV and I can only shake my head in sorrow. Glad you're safe. Hopefully Nashville will re-build fast and no further destruction will happen.

So glad that you survived. Sad about the people who died though.
We got floods, but very few fatalities.
Sad old world at the moment.

So so sorry Ronni that your town has experienced this horrific damage and loss of life. It sounds as though it is so extensive that everyone knows of someone who had been hurt. I am glad you and your family are safe but I am appreciating the trauma to your community.
