yes...larger than the Cooper's hawk. We watched him from our livingroom window and he was way off in the distance but he was still large. All of a sudden he flew behind our neighbors house...really low like he was going after something. Maybe it was one of Cindy's birds at her feeders. Later I had him swoop down by our house but not on the side by the pergola...You can bet I plan on having my camera ready for when he does visit...I am just worried about my little dog...I thought the Cooper's Hawk that I showed pictures of was big enough...stay tuned...believe me if I get a picture of that huge bird I will be excited....and it will be posted. Wish me luck in getting a good picture....LOL

Here is the Cooper's Hawk in case someone hadn't seen it....and the hawk I saw was larger...

Sorry, the pictures would not downsize on Photobucket again. These pictures were taken through the window and from about 1000 feet away. But he still looks big to me. I am not sure what kind of hawk the last 2 pictures are of.

I hope he returns so that you can take a photograph of him Sherry. I wonder what type of bird of prey he was. Maybe a buzzard of some sorts?

Good Luck Sherry! I hope you have better luck getting a photo of that bird than I do getting a shot of my Hummingbirds! It sure can get frustrating!

It could have been a Red-tailed Hawk, the largest of the Hawks. 22" long with a wing span of 56"...almost twice the size of a Coopers Hawk.

Certainly hope you can get a picture of it.

    What an amazing bird.
From the information bits that I can gather here in the thread, I wish you every piece of luck you might need to capture this bird on camera.
PS - do hold on to the little pup.
