    ......yet but as I can’t use any slug bait due to the dog, by the end of the summer my hostas will be lacey

    I never have a problem with slugs on my hostas. I mentioned that on another forum and friends on there suggested that as we have foxes, they will keep the slugs under control. If that is the case I shall continue to encourage the foxes to visit us, with tit bits and table scraps. ;-)
