I take it Hare Island has seen better days?

 

they are cool pictures, but I agree with jerry, There seems to be a population decline. You know that makes for very poor tax revenue to fix up the roads

 

Hi Carolyn,..Hi Jerry,
there is only one island inhabited these days,..Hare Island not being it,..there were no roads!,..lol,..so no tax,..it used to belong to Lord Castlemaine,..the ruins of his house are still fairly intact,..and the Church on the Island,..there are 140 acres of meadow and woodland,..with just sheep on the island,..lots of pheasants to be found.

 

Philip--this series of fotos are perhaps the most interesting ones that you have ever posted (for me, that is). I am really interested in old stuff and this place sure fits the bill. There is something tragic, yet so intrigueing about grown-over ruins. My mind immediately begins considering the lives of the people who once inhabited the old places and how their lives must have been...the conversations that they must have had and so forth.
Those abandoned places seem to hold a charm for me and remain to a degree, silent about the secrets that the vines and rust hold silently within the structures.
The bird's nest was also curious to see. It looked like the tide had gone out for them as well.

there is certainly an atmosphere of times past on these islands,..with remnants of the inhabitants still lying about,..Viking raids and Irish tribal disputes still show signs of having being here,..this island is where all that Viking gold was found,..the largest hoard in Europe!,..when you turn over a large stone,..you are apt to find more than worms,..there were raids here in the years 843,..894,..1087,..and 1089.

Daffodils that were sown years and years ago still flourish here.

I love these photos Philip! Ruins are very interesting to me as well. That 5th photo has me intrigued...where does the path lead? I'm just imagining that huge pot planted up with trailing flowers LOL

 

Hi Netty,
when i came across that huge pot i also could picture it in my garden,..not too late yet,..next time i am there,..on my own,..it will end up as you imagined, .

Oh that path leads from the old house to the orchard,..i collect eating and stewing apples from there each year,..then have a job looking for women who will bake me an apple tart, ,..they then get rewarded with many apples of course.

 

More nice ruins, Philip. I appreciate the dates as well. It puts things in perspective.
Those Vikings sure did get around, didn't they. An interesting lot, that.

 

That old huge pot looks like it could have been a Leprechan's pot o gold! You aren't suddenly rich are you?

 

Lol,..its a big pot,..one i imagine they used for cooking pig food,..even were it filled with £1 coins or $1 notes i would be well off, .
