My hummingbird feeder was one of the 'usual' glass types. When you go to refill it, what was left in the base would drain all over the place. Yicky Sticky! and wasteful! Plus it was leaking even after I glued the heck out of the base. The glass is still perfectly fine.
So I bought one of those top-fill one's the other day. I think I'm going to like it.
Any ideas on what to do with the old one?

Straight sided container or pear shape? Possibly with a cork in the opening, glass paint for designing and some wire you could make a pretty hanging thing.

Can you post a photo of it so I will know if my idea completely sucks or not ;)

Hmmmmm: fill with colored water and direct sunshine(using a mirror) into the glass, it might look pretty. Requires experimentation.

I would say make a rain gauge out of it except........:-(

Cheryl, we have two of those, and my husband put caulk all around the bottom, which stopped the leaking. He also put axle grease (can't be on a farm without axle grease) on the supporting pole to discourage ants.
What to do with your old one? Hmmm, donate it to the thrift store, fill it with water and make a bee watering station, put it out by the road with a "Free" sign on it? Hey, you know I'm not crafty!

I would recycle that into the trash as I am not thrifty enough to make it look like junkque. It would just look like junk in my yard. :( Sorry I am not much help in the recycling area.

You could check for one of those rabbit waterer adapters(cork or rubber) for caged pets and see if one would fit in the opening instead of trying to find one that screws on.You might find one at a pet store or farm store.

DAP brand makes a 100% silicone household sealant that maybe you could fix the old one with. I bought mine for something in the kitchen, as it was food safe. I picked it up at Home Depot.

Toni... there's no way any idea of your's would suck... you're always figuring out neat stuff to do with junk. Glass paint? Does that last or will the good ol' sun bake it off quickly?

Jerry.... don't want the poor hummers thinking they have food and then they can't get to it! :-o
And to seal it... maybe a cork or rubber stopper?
    A rain gauge... funny!

Jane... I use a sealant/glue made by Goop. It fixes anything! Except this thing. Drip drip drip.
Even if I could get it sealed, don't think I'd like making it feeding station for things that sting. We have tons of red wasps, & yellow jackets. Sure don't want to encourage them to hang around.
Hmmm... guess I could put it out by the dumpster at work... you know... pay back for all the neat stuff I've gotten? :D

Carolyn.... good idea about the pet waterer thingy. I wonder if hummers would be able to drink out of it?

Thanks everyone... you gave me some things to consider.

Hot glue a few strands of those craft beads on a wire around the threads, turn it upside down and use it as a bud/flower vase. Toss the plastic part in trash !!
