I think I'm going to try to make a couple of the bird baths like Carolyn and Donna (and others too, I'm sure.)
I have a tree stump that I plan on using as the pedestal for mine. But I was thinking of making one to put in the silent auction at the church in October.
So what did you all use as the pedestal? Did you make something or just buy one from the store?
And how do you get them to "fit" together?

I had an old concrete bird bath pedestal that I picked up from a friend. The top was broken and she was going to throw it out. It had a round top with a lip so I just used a round container and pressed it into the center of the leaf when the hypertufa was still wet. Once dry, it fit onto the pedestal perfectly :)

Thanks Netty. You all make it sound so easy.
I think I'll get one of the pre-made pedestals and see if I can make it work.

Can someone tell me what I can do? I made a few of the concrete leaf birdbaths but the leaves are stuck on them when they're done curing. How do I get the leaves off?

I haven't made a leaf bird bath yet but I have made stepping stones with leaves. I pulled off what pieces of leaf that would come of easily. I left the rest until the concrete was dried and then scrubbed the remaining bits off with a stiff brush.

Judy, you can just let Mother Nature take care of the odd bits--they will decompose and come off on their own. We made leaf stepping stones and didn't bother removing any of the leaf material. It was gone in a couple of weeks. (2ofus is a lot neater and more enthusiastic than I am!)

Thank you both for your replies. Can't wait for them to completely dry. So excited for this project.

    Thank you!!!
