Primrose is a hardy plant that grows well in partial shade or full sun. It is one of the first flowers in spring. Keep it watered the first year and afterwards it will grow every year. We have carpets of wild primula in our forest and in spring we often eat the leaves and especially the flowers. I am not sure if the cultivated varieties are edible.

Odif is correct about the watering. Also have some new soil when you plant the primroses.
