Good for re-establishing a disturbed area, Epilobium angustifolium, was the first plant to bloom on Mt St Helens after the devastating eruption on May 8, 1980. Common names : fireweed, great willow-herb or Rosebay Willowherb.

The "Fireweed" Epilobium Angustifolium. Family: Onagraceae - Evening Primrose Family. (We call it Rosebay Willowherb here in the UK) This was the first plant to bloom in areas that were destroyed by the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens.
