We bought this old radio cabinet several months ago at our favorite thrift store, of course. It held a 1937 Philco radio that had seen better days, missing a vital tube that if it could be found would not guarantee the radio would work. That was okay since Randy wanted it to convert to hold our Stereo,CD and Cassette player.

The conversion was his weekend project and we are both really pleased with it. We need to find some reproductions of old radio knobs and we are going to make a new dial face for it.

He made the section where the speaker cover was into a removable door for access to the CD and Cassette player. He replaced the old section with a piece of plexiglass that he glued a piece of fabric to and even with it in place we can still use the remote control to raise or lower the volume of the stereo or the TV (the TV sound comes thru the stereo speakers)

What great use for an old radio cabinet! They really are much too pretty to just throw away. I'm glad you saved it.

What an attractive piece of furniture Toni. Randy had certainly brought it back to life and solved a storage problem into the bargain. :-D

Great clash, a modern media centre in an antique casing. It fits in very well with the entire decor Toni. Well done both of you.

I love that old radio. It's so nice to get those dust collectors under wraps!

I love this. My favorite thing is to make old things useful again. Great job!

Thanks everyone, we really like the way it turned out and the old cabinet does look better with the decor than the stereo did....now if we could do something to camouflage the TV.
Did realize last night while watching TV that the angle is wrong from my chair so the remote doesn't work on the volume but it does from Randy's chair. So anytime I want to watch a movie and knit I will just remove that front piece.

P.S. Forgot to mention that I made an Offer of the old radio and speaker on the rEcycle list, they are being picked up tomorrow morning by a couple who want to use the parts to restore a couple of old radios they have.

Well done toni! I'm glad to hear that the radio equipment might have a new life too.
