Have any of you ever used coir for starting seeds?
Coir is the shredded shell of a coconut. It is being said to br the replacement for Peat Moss. It has a ph of 5.0 - 6.8 neutral to slightly acidic. This will retain water at 8 - 9 times it's weight. And is reusable!!!!!! They say it doesn't break down for up to 4 yrs and I know it can be re-pasteurized. I've used it in some of my mushroom grows as a casing. I'll be using this to start my seeds this year.
It is found in most pet stores under the name "Bed a Beast" in the reptile isle.
