Rue is a blue-green perennial herb which is a host plant for butterflies. I have quite a bit of rue seed pods maturing, and will send seed pods to anyone in the United States for a self-addressed stamped envelope. Just send me a private message, and I'll provide our address.

Hi Jane, My rue seeds that you sent last year have not bloomed yet, they did not bloom last year either but they did survive the winter. You also sent me dill seeds...I have alot of dill this year .
Gail, Rue often takes a full year to develop. When I get volunteer rue plants, they are about 6" tall the first year, then the second year they grow and have little yellow flowers that develop into seed pods. After that, look out--you'll be overrun by rue! Glad the dill worked out for you--it will self-seed and you'll have dill forever.
Don, that's a great photo. I didn't think to take a photo of a swallowtail instar on rue, so I thank you doubly for doing so!
Jane... mine are growing pretty good. I did put them in a container only because I didn't have any bed space for them earlier this year. Do you think they would do okay if I did put them in the ground now? Or just wait and plant some more seeds?
Cheryl, If you can plant them without disturbing the rootball, I think they will do fine. Just give them a bit of afternoon shade for 3-4 days until they settle in. I can send more seed if you want to plant some directly. Let me know.
Jane, I still have some of the seeds... only planted about half. I'll see if I can get some of it transplanted. I do like the way it looks! Edited to add photo: Rue ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I put almost half in the ground. Hopefully they'll take.
