Hiyah folks, I was just watching an old DVD called, "The Victorian Kitchen Garden", presented by Peter Thoday. At one point I saw some people trampling-down bare soil in this peculiar, shuffling manner to prepare it for making a seed bed. Could tell me tell me why they do this, when normally you want the soil more loose than compact so the the water can drain downwards well. It was quite interesting to see, and I believe that I have also seen Christine Walkden do this as well on her series recently. I find this a curious technique and would like to know more about it. Thanks.
