I took the bit in my teeth and ordered a 6 qt. slow cooker. I have one recipe book with recipes for crowds (Church Potluck Slow Cooker). I'll happily trade recipes that feed the multitudes for recipes scaled for everyday use. Anyone have favorite slow cooker recipes they would share?
I don't need large portion recipes but am alway looking for new versions of Chicken soup. Don't say that outloud, we don't want to scare your ladies if they happen to be walking by an open window. Taco Soup..... http://www.gardenstew.com/about2854.html Triple Chocolate Mess- Crock Pot/Slow Cooker cake http://www.gardenstew.com/about1215.html Three stew recipes.... http://www.gardenstew.com/about7737.html ------------------------------------------------ And one of our favorites....serve with rice Jar of Chili Sauce (found with the ketsup in the grocery store) Jar of grape jelly, use amount equal to the Chili sauce Mix together in slow cooker over high heat to melt jelly. Meatballs, frozen or homemade OR Hillshire Farm® Lit'l Smokies® Cook on low for a few hours, never timed it you just have to check to see if the meatballs are done or before the lil smokies wizen up badly.
Toni, thank you! The ladies know about chicken soup--I threaten them with that and Chicken Marsala everytime they slack off on the egg laying.
I've got one that I actually won 2nd place in a bake-off with. Chocolate Pudding Crockpot (or Slow Cooker) Cake (better be ready for a super rich dessert!!!) Spray the cooker with Pam Mix the following ingredients and pour in the cooker. 3 cups flour 6 tsp baking powder 1.5 cups sugar 1 tsp salt 4 TBSP cocoa 1.5 cups milk 6 TBSP melted shortening 3 tsp vanilla Mix the following and SPRINKLE on top (do not stir into the other mix) 3/4 cup sugar 1.5 cups brown sugar 5 TBSP cocoa 1 TSP salt Pour the following on top of everything... DO NOT STIR 4.5 cups of boiling water with 3 tsp vanilla. Cook on high for 3 hours. Do not stir or anything... just let it be. Eat hot or cold with whipped cream or ice cream. Wish I could describe the finished product... like a cake that has it's own filling/layer and icing!!
Whoo-hoo Cheryl, now I know what I'm taking to the next Lay Workers get-together. If that cake is as good as it sounds, we may end up with more workers than we know what to do with (great recruiting tool, food). If that was 2nd place, I cannot imagine what 1st place was. Did someone bring in Julia Child as a ringer?
Don't choose a winner until you try the Triple Chocolate Mess cake recipe I included Cheryl that recipe makes me want to say to heck with this diet we are on. Maybe I can try it as a special reward after I loose some weight.
Jane... I don't remember what or who won first place. Oh well... they didn't matter anyhow... just me! Toni... Your recipe sounds much easier. I think I'll have to give it a try and see if they come out the same. Hmmmm.... can't remember if I still have a working slow cooker. I'm going to check when I get home. My sister is coming next week for a visit. I think I should give this a try!
