I was given this bromeliad over 10 years ago and planted it out in my jungle, somewhere, and forgot about it. It was only a very small pup at the time.

A few years ago I stumbled across it, not much bigger than when I fist planted it and transferred it into a pot...where I could keep an eye on it.

It's started to develop red stripes and has (of course) yet to flower. I think it's about half grown.

(The second slowest growing bromeliad I have is in the same pot, to the top of the photo and barely recognisable. It could also win the award for the most ugliest. It's twisted and contorted (that's the way it is intended to grow)and in terrible condition, so I'll wait for it's pup (just visible on the right) to grow a little more before posting a photo...if the pup does indeed belong to it, not sure yet.)

Any ideas what its name is?

Hi, I have no idea at all, I am sure someone can help you though.I think it is quite a nice colour, I am pretty sure the pup belongs to it too.

Chocolate it's a gorgeous colour. I just wish it would multiply faster. I could do with more drought proof red and orange colours in my jungle ;)

It's a shot in the dark but try Aechmea neoregelia 'close of day' or perhaps Aechmea neoregelia 'moonshine'. With a gazillion varieties out there......

Jerry, thanks so much for your efforts...I've looked at your suggestions, but am still indecisive. I guess I should wait until (if I live that long ;) ) it flowers.

This one will be definitely staying in a pot where I can keep a close eye on it. Don't want to miss it flowering ;)

I just hope it won't be disappointing :)
Have you googled for similar bromelias in bloom?
Or you'd rather wait for the surprise?

I've googled so many bromeliad images they're all a blur. I just can't find one the same exact colours, pattern, so I think the flower will give me one more piece to the puzzle.

And, it had better be impressive when it does flower, lol. ;)

Snap, try aechmea Spring Beauty, remember yours has been undercover for awhile, maybe the colours will change if it is in the sun.

Chocolate, thanks for the continuing efforts with identifying this brom. I don't think it's aechmea Spring Beauty...but I have good news.

I took these photos today while at my Mum's place, obviously that's where mine came from. Her's is in flower and gets more sun than mine, so the leaves are a little different in colour.

Very true chocolate...it's just than I'm a bit anal (in case you hadn't noticed) ;) and if I sell the plant's pups, while not in flower, I thought I should try and name them?

I guess I can always include a description on their name tags :stew2:
