I had to be on the phone when i was planting seeds which already had me irritated and i planted green bean seeds in the same row i planted the squash seeds. Theres no way I can go through and get the bean seeds out so I just planted them in the next row. Can you tell the difference in the seedlings so I can just pull the green beans when they all sprout in my squash row? Or will they kill the squash seedlings b/c of the big seed? Sorry if this is a dumb question i'm "green" at gardening haha
Don't worry about combining the seeds. Squash seed, when they germinate and come up, have very "fleshy" leaves and the plant is close to the ground. Green bean seeds are more upright with a stem, and have thinner leaves. Let them grow together--you'll get beans and squash--the beans first, and when they stop producing, pull the plants and start looking for small squash. And next time, hang up the phone!

And that's why I don't carry a phone outside with me (actually, it's because I'm so dippy I'd lose the darn thing, and my husband would laugh at me while calling my phone so I could locate it!)

It will be no problem to have them growing together, in fact the classic "Three Sisters" is with squash, beans and corn... in this method all three crops are grown in close proximity to each other on purpose. Mate, imagine how impressed your pals there will be when you do this (sorta) and then can give them the explanation. BTW--You shouldn't be so hard on yourself for this. There's no penalty for mixing stuff up...it's all part of the hobby. Why I do things like that every year, and I've been gardening for more than 20 years. I've said it before, and I'll say it again---there are no dumb questions. Anyhow, folks on here like Marlingardener and others will be more than happy to give you advoce when you ask. I was going to say the same thing about the Three Sisters garden ... plant some corn with them and they'll do great!
All will be fine and will simply add interest to your garden and interest now to a story you can tell forever more of the year you grew squash and beans at the same time
Cjg320, last summer I lost track of where I had plant my lettuce & sowed beet seeds on top of them! It was an interesting plot.
Lettuce see now---you said that you planted one on top of the other.....well, how did they turn out in the end? Could you harvest both?
SJ, yes I did. I have a very soft spot for plants of any kind. I harvested the lettuce first. I now go to the garden with my plot plan in hand!
