Made a double batch of green tomato mincemeat. My house smells wonderful. Love my new canner.
I think it will be well worth the cost. No more lifting heavy pots.

It took 3 hours to cook the mincemeat down.

I like your canner. Did you order it online? How expensive, if I may ask?

Hi Ms Kitty, Yes I ordered it on line from Bed Bath & Beyond. It was $149.00 with free shipping. Amazon is also $149.00 but you pay to ship. It has a setting just for canning and can be cooked in also. We are going to do a seafood boil in a couple weeks for 10 people. Sure will be handy on the deck for that.

Donna, I'm so glad the mincemeat recipe worked out okay! I was going to ask, but was too timid . . . .

Jane it was great. But I added butter instead of suet. I also added dryed cranberries & cherries and a little BRANDY.

Speaking of timid... right. What do you do with it, now? I probably wouldn't be tempted to try it just because it was available. It just has a weird sound to the name. mincemeat. You ever hear some one say they were going to make mincemeat out of you? thanks but no thanks is my first thought.

Nice canner, Donna. It is nice to see the manufacture's come up with some new easier to use products.

Donna, you certainly improved that recipe, especially by adding brandy!

If I was going to eat mincement, it would only be green tomato mincement, However Mike doesn't like it at all so I've never fixed it. I am very interested in the canner though. I was going to ask a bunch of questions but I think that would be changing your topic but, thank you for the information so I can look it up.

Carolyn, I believe the name mincemeat does turn people off. But it's all fruit and very tasty. We love mincemeat pies and cookies. A store bought jar is about $10.00 now and will not fill a pie shell. So I figured I save $70.00 or bought my new canner for half price.

Hi Mart, Yes it does replace water bath canners. I love the temp control and being able to drain off hot water. No more lifting hot pots.

Congrats on a new kitchen 'toy' and a great looking batch of mince.
If you like a fruit mince try the Pear recipe I posted .....
    http://www.gardenstew.com/threads/pear-mince-pie-filling.8082/#post-74226

It makes a great tasting pie.
When it's made with fruit instead of meat, it usually makes it sound tastier to call it just mince, the word meat tends to turn some people off.
