It's amazing to think that such a simple solution is possible but I suppose the weedkiller manufacturers were really going to advertise this little secret :D

One thing I would be slightly cautious about though is not to use too much over a particular area if you do not want to affect the acidity of the soil. I would monitor the pH of the soil just to be careful. You don't want your hydrangeas turning blue overnight

Tip for deep rooted individual weeds:

Cut the bottom out of a 2ltr juice or plastic water bottle. Pop it over the weed - if you have to cut it down first to a manageable height - fine. Take off the bottle cap, squirt in the vinegar. Re-seal the bottle. Hey presto a mini greenhouse which will ensure that the weed gets burnt as well as being hit by the vinegar. This method will also protect the plants you want in your garden by making sure that they are not sprayed with the vinegar and it is also more likely to be confined to the one area of soil where the weed is. :D

    Vinegar

I believe Gardener's Supply Company sells something they tout as an organic weed killer which is basically a highly concentrated vinegar and nothing else.

The vinegar method works by the way =)
