Do you use ammonia to clean?

  1. Sometimes, if necessary, but I don't like to.

Gather 'round, all ye who delight in cleaning!
Don your rubber gloves and head this way! :sete_062:

Thought I would start this thread (thanks for
the location suggestion, Frank :-D ) to list
    helpful cleaning tips and ideas.

Recently, I found a tip for cleaning those bugger
stove top grates. While I like to clean, I don't
have endless hours to devote to stove grates, so
I was thankful to have found this little ditty.

Remove the grates from your stove top. Place one
grate into a large ziploc bag. Using a spray bottle
filled with ammonia, spray down the grate well and
close the bag. Leave it overnight. The next
morning, the grates should require little, if any
elbow grease to make them sparkling clean again.

Of course, this might not be do-able if you have
one long grate for two burners.

Don't forget, ammonia and bleach don't mix,
    they produce a toxic gas.

I'm all for making cleaning easier too! I've never used ammonia for cleaning but that doesn't mean I never will use it.

I have four cats. If I used ammonia, they would think that was a good spot to add their own ammonia. lol

I wonder how this would work on barbecue grates? Worth a try anyways. Great thread, it just makes me nuts when I have something I struggle with and never can get clean!

Just as a point of interest, the mixture of Ammonia and Bleach releases Chlorine gas. It doesn't just make you sick, it's a deadly poison and any exposure can cause lung damage.
