I’m posting a shot of the progression of the garden I created earlier this season. I planted zinnias and snapdragon seeds. I also added a few verbena, nasturtiums and penta plants and a variegated feather reed grass. There is also some perilla that Bob planted last year. Geez you have to watch that stuff! It goes crazy and I’m not so sure I want it because it’s so spready. Anyway, it’s so colorful and way better than the stomped down grass that was there before. HaHa I have lots of bees & butterflies, and we’ve even seen Hummingbirds visiting! I’ll be tweaking this bed every year for new and different varieties of annuals to enjoy.
@Kay gorgeous flower bed. A great example of a butterfly/bird sanctuary. The garden fairies were buzy in your garden . Even bird feeders . A wonderful Happy Place to sit inside by the window and watch the birds.
That is a colourful garden that you have created. You made that look so nice. I am interested in seeing how it progresses.

Thanks you guys! Do any of you feed Orioles? They migrate from lands far to our south, up here each April. They nest, raise babies, and live here until sometime in late September when they all leave for warmer climates to winter. We have been feeding them for several years, and love seeing their beautiful colors and gentle ways. We have Oriole feeders rising up out of this flower bed, and they are filled with jelly and fruit. This time of summer, the birds have to compete with the bees that are also attracted to the feeders. It’s fun to watch the birds peck at and dodge those busy bees.
I feed the Orioles and the hummingbirds! They can be rather entertaining to watch! The feeders are emptying very quickly these days, and I fear they are on a feeding frenzy before they head south. The nights have been getting cool, so its a matter of time.
Netty, we’re wondering if the influx of Orioles are the ones beginning migration. There have been so many the past week or so. I think the females are so much bolder and it’s entertaining to watch them snap at bees. The males are much more shy. About the jelly-drunk bees, my neighbor has bee hives and he thinks they buzz over to our backyard to spend the day snacking .HAHA He gave me a jar of his honey to see if it has any hint of a grape taste. LOL
