I thought I'd try something different this year, so I've put in Ageratum, Alyssum and some million-bells-thingy. The colours are darker than the photo shows, and the planter looks fuller in RL:

So all I need to do now is iron the national costume blouse, air out the costume itself, find some nice clothes for the girls, shine the shoes, cut some birch for decoration and we're set.

I've still got a couple of days to go on, right?

Very pretty. I think I need to find some of those red million-bells thingies, I like those.
You can do it, you are further into 'today' than I am over here but you still have the rest of today, then all day tomorrow and the next day....piece of cake, you have plenty of time. :-D

That looks good this year, Droopy.

Yeah...you've got plenty of time to get everything sorted.
Don't forget to have someone take a coupla piccies of those costumes again though, ok? They look very nice. And the stitch-work is interesting.

I think it's spelled Calchoa or something like that. Mine are in a container with a purple Datura.

Thanks for liking the planter. I'm hoping it will do well and bloom nicely through summer. And the alyssum will hopefully provide some nice scent around our front door when (if) the evenings are warm.

Here's last year's blog entry on May 17th, with costumes, parades and such:

Thank you Netty. It looks sort of sparse in the photo, but will hopefully pick up quickly.

Oh Droopy, I really enjoyed looking at your post and pics from last year. I can see why you are looking forward to the 17th of May -- it looks like a fun day. You look beautiful in your bunad. All of the costumes are lovely and the embroidery, wow, and so many different kinds. I learned to embroider on Hardanger cloth when I was a little girl -- it does take forever, and keen eyesight. Thanks for sharing -- it's neat to learn about how things are done in other places. BTW, your flag is a pretty one.

Thank you daisybeans. It is the best day we've got, especially if the weather's nice. :D We've done the parade in full rain gear a couple of times, and that doesn't look quite as festive. I admire people who can sew Hardanger patterns. I can't and have no patience for it either.

Where exactly will you place this work of art?
It's difficult for me to see it's outline because of the grass.
It really is a supurb selection of plants.
