Do the seeds of your tree look like catkins by any chance Mary? If not could you try to describe them or take a photograph for us please?

The balls that held the seeds are all gone now. They would pop open and throw the seeds. Someone said it might be from Brazil.

Bear with me Mary as I've asked a friend of mine who runs a garden centre what your tree may be. Hopefully, she'll e.mail me soon with a name for it. :fingerscrossed:

It looks a lot like a Cecropia obtusifolia, but I'm not certain. I'm no good with trees.

Thank you, I think you are right. It is in that family. The tree I have is a little different but close enough to the pictures I have looked up. After years of trying to find out what it was, it has taken 1 day on this site to get an answer. Love this site! Great job!

I just got an e.mail from my friend at the nursery and he thinks it's the same tree as you do droopy -either that or some type of maple. The young leaves of the Cecropia obtusifolia tend to be the shape of the ones in Mary's first photograph. Another suggestion was that it might be a Tapioca tree.
