I have these really cool looking plants in the yard, they almost look whimsical. Broad heart shaped leaves on singular stalks. They shoot up over 10't tall but only have leaves at the top. You can walk below the leaves and weave in and out of the stems/stalks. Some of them have long pollen/seed pods that hang from the leaves. Does not flower. I think they are very cool, but others said they're just an overgrown weed. Any ideas? Thank you!
Does this look like it .... (click on blue link to our plant database) Paulownia tomentosa (Empress Tree, Princess Tree)
Toni, it kind of looks like that. But when it gets tall there aren't any leaves on the lower stalk/stem and the top looks like an umbrella. And it does not flower, so far at least. Purpleinopp, in South Florida - recently bought property but these guys have been growing a long while, taller than the house. I will try to get some better pics. Thanks for responses!
Ronnie, I am offended.......He wouldn't seem so BIG if he didn't have the white bucket in his hand........LOL Oh no you meant that green thing.....?? That is a wood or tree that they make decking out of....it is not a weed..
Some more pictures, hope that helps. Waretrop, by "when it gets tall" I mean that there are already very tall ones and short just started ones in the same area. So I can see it just looks like a broadleaf plant of some kind when its short but then it shoots up. Wish I could just better pictures, but it doesn't seem to have a tree like trunk.
With alternate foliage, it can't be Paulownia (non-native, invasive.) Possibly Catalpa (native.) In S FL, it could be anything though...
This is true purpleinopp, the Catalpa looks kinda close but what I have does not have tree like trunks. It almost looks like bamboo, skinny and segmented with knots. ::sigh:: Magic mystery bean stalks, lol. Thank you everyone for your input!
