I got the idea from Kildale when they posted about going on vacation. Here is one of my vacation mishaps.
Many moons ago, and I mean many. I had just gotten married and we went out to Oregon of our honeymoon. Saw a lot of beautiful country side and neat parks. But one park just outside of Eugene, OR we went walking in I wasn't to sure about.
This is the sign that greeted you as you walked up to the hiking trail. CAUTION: WATCH OUT FOR FALLING ROCKS, RATTLE SNAKES, and POISON OAK.
I thought yikes, do we really want to hike here. After we talked it over, we decided that we would keep a sharp eye out for all of the above because it looked like such a neat place to walk.
Half way into our hike nothing out of the ordinary had happened. We were enjoying the neat flora and fawna. As we rounded a bend in the trail a yellow lab was bounding towards us as happy as it could be. Came up to us wagging it's tail and wanting to be petted. Which, because I love dogs did just that. Then it was on it merry way with it's owner in tow.
Well by the next day I was miserable. I had broken out in poison oak on my right arm and the spot was spreading.
I forgot to mention that I am highly allergic to poison ivy. So having the poison oak show up on my arm was quite a shock.
Since I knew we had stayed on the trail I couldn't figure out where I had come in contact with it.

Then it dawned on me   The friendly dog we had encountered. He had been running in and out of the greenery before he came up to us. I, the animal lover did not think he was on such a dasterdly mission when he came bounding up wanting to be petted.
So we stopped at several pharmacy's to try and find something to apply to it. Nothing worked.
So afer 5 days it had gone from a quarter size spot, to an 1" by 5" long itchy gross looking thing.
Thank God we fly home on the next day and I was able to go too our Wal-grens and get something to put on it.
So now when I see a happy friendly dog come bounding up to be petted and it has been running who knows where. I keep my hands in my pockets and say, good dog, good dog. Now go away. :stew1:

those darn friendly dogs can be decieving :D the only real mishaps i can think of happened when i visited spain with my mum, sister, and grandparents when i was about 6 or 7 years old. the first incident involved me truly beleiving i could swim better than i actually could . . . first day out of the hotel, i pulled on my trunks and ran for the deep end . . . and then very quickly sink to the bottom of the deep end. my sister had to rescue me (love you sis) . . . and the second incident involved me doing a bit of exploring around the hotel and locking myself in a room. . . i was in there a good while shouting and screaming before finally plucking up the courage to eject myself from a window on to a nasty hedge . . . all in all it was a good holiday :-D

We were snorkeling in about 30' of water, and my foot itched. I took off my fin, scratched my foot, and watched my fin slowly floating down to the bottom. I don't dive (that's why we snorkel).
Fortunately, a fellow saw my fin making its way to sleep with the fishes, and dove down to get it. He presented me with the fin and for the rest of our vacation every time he saw us he called me "Cinderella".

Lukeypukey glad your sister saw what you were up to and came to your rescue. Kids have no fear of a lot of things as you showed us. ;)

Marlingardener- that would have been no fun trying to get back to shore with only one flipper. You would have been going in cirlces literally. Glad prince charming came to your rescue. I have never been snorkeling, but have always wanted to try it.

Years ago, before my son was born, my husband and I took a camping trip out west. On our way home we heard that a hurricane was headed into the Louisiana, Miss., Alabama area so my husband decided we would drive all night to get out of the storms way. I was the night driver so I had lay down on the bed in back of the van to sleep until husband got sleepy then I would take over. We had just crossed into Miss. when something woke me up. When I sat up I saw a man standing at the drivers door with a gun in his hand and blue lights flashing all around me. He asked if I was OK and I said "I hope so what is going on, where is my husband?" To make a long story short, there had been a police officer literally blown in half with a shotgun in Louisiana. The culprit was driving a white van with a green strip, like ours, had a Florida tag, like ours, and my husband fit the description of the guy who did the shooting. Well my husband was a fireman at that time so the cops called and got him cleared. It was storming outside and when my husband got back into the van he was soaked. By that time we were both awake. As we crossed into Alabama, a cop car pulled out behind us, then passed us and two more pulled in behind us. More blue lights and we pulled over. I swear one of the officers reminded me of Barney Fife on Mayberry RFD. He approached the van with his gun shaking in his hand and yelled get out of the car with your hands up boy to my husband. I know they had reason to be worried but I was worried that his gun was going to go off accidently and kill us. My husband said "Don't you guys ever listen to your radios?" He went with them while I was held in the van. Once again we were cleared. We drove straight thru to our house and every cop car we saw on the way we just knew we were going to get pulled over again but thankfully it was only the two times.

Gosh White-Wolfe I'm glad none of those cops had an itchy triger finger!! What a scarey experience for both you and your husband. I hope they managed to find the person with the shotgun before he could kill anyone else.

Yikes White-Wolfe. With that type of vacation, one doesn't need to watch any fast action movies. I definitely would have sold the van after getting home.
That would have been pretty unnerving. Especially if you had just watched the movie "An Innocent Man" starring Tom Selnick. Thank God you made it home safe and sound. :stew1:
