the stems are dying from the soil out. Brown and crispy. Resides in a large window with indirect sun. Any ideas?

Brown and crispy usually means too much heat (even from indirect sun) heat coming through the window could be the problem since the glass magnifies it and is also drying out the soil quickly.
Try moving away from the window. You might lose it anyway, but you can cut it back and see if it puts out new growth.
