Finally! It bloomed! Reflective Flame Water Lily ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And there's more buds waiting to open. Not sure if they are the Lemon Mist or more of these. Now... if they'd just bloom at the same time, please. And speaking of the Lemon Mist.... the buds opened on the Water Lilies in the small container. Sure looks like more Lemon Mist, but this one's leaves have red splotches. Another Lemon Mist? ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
A lovely charmer that one is Cheryl. Even by itself it is a beauty. Question: what do you do with your lilies when winter arrives? Do you do anything special to protect them? Jerry
WOW. Yum-yum blooms. I just traded with someone here and she's sending me a pink (hardy) lily. Am gonna keep it like you, in a container. Hope it does well. She told me to also get some small fish for it??? Have you tried that? Keeping some small fish in the pot? She also told me... it's hardy and can just sit outside during freezing winter temps. TRUE? would a lily survive after it all gets frozen ??? hmmmm
Both your water lilies are really lovely Cheryl. Mine have a way to go yet before they flower so it's great to be able to see yours until they do.
Cal & Jerry... I tried fish in the smaller container and they did okay. I just felt that it was a bit too crowded for them and thought that perhaps it would get too hot for them since there really isn't that much water. In the big container/barrell... I have 3 Comet Goldfish. They are probably 3 inches long and have plenty of room. And these lilies stayed out all winter. Once, ice got a couple of inches thick (and stayed frozen for at least a couple of days). And as you can see... the Lilies didn't mind a bit! Now as far as the fish being out there all winter. I had just set up a small aquarium and hadn't purchased any fish for it. So I let them live inside during winter. This winter, they're staying in the barrel. Eileen...can't wait to see your's blooming again!
You've got lovely water lilies! I think I'd like a red one. My mother's always wanted to grow water lilies, and since we suddenly, quite by accident got a pond, my mother bought her water lily and placed it with me. It's yellow, and it's living in a tub on our veranda. I fear that when mother finds out about it she'll buy herself a tub and a red water lily and plant it on my veranda also.
Well Droopy... you must tell your Mum about it now. The sooner she nows, the sooner you can have one growing too!
Not on your life! My husband is working on the second pond project as we speak, and I'm not saying anything about it until it's done. Then, if mother still wants to grow red water lilies she can buy one and plant it here herself.
