This plant grows in same spot every year. Wife and I think it is a weed and not a flower. Can someone ID it? We both are thinking of pulling it because it is a weed.
Phytolacca americana (American Pokeweed ) Some call it a weed but I let it grow and return every year in the far corner of my backyard where nothing else will grow. Doesn't hurt anything and it is edible but it takes some special cooking procedures and can be poison if not cooked properly. Also birds love the berries that will form after the blooms die another reason I leave it alone.
Poke weed is an excellent early spring green ! The leaves are like a wild spinach and the stems when young taste similar to asparagus if peeled and steamed,, stems can also be sliced, battered and fried like okra ! This plant is already too old to be good but watch next spring for young plants !
