Ian dropped me off here while he went to work so I thought I'd take a few photographs for you all. The nature reserve was in a place called Gaerloverock (not far from Dumfries) and it is famous for the Whooper and Bewick swans than visit there. Bewick swans having a family chat. Whooper swans. Whooper and mute swans + various ducks. I thought I'd captured a yellowhammer but instead it was a male sparrow!! A few Brent greese. Only some of the 7000+ geese to fly overhead at dusk.
Wow,Eileen you really took some great pictures.I do love the graceful swans. I should have been with you The ducks and greese are always fun to watch.Thats a beautiful area they are making there home at.Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your time away from home.
Well I did try to do some sketching Frank but I couldn't hold the pencil for long as it was sooooo cold. Maybe I'll just take inspiration from the photographs instead. Yes Jan the black swans are gorgeous with their red bills aren't they? I must go and get some piccies of them sometime soon.
Beautiful swans. I like the first picture of the family conference - wonder what decisions they are making.
Geese are my most fave birds, don't ask me why! Lovely photos Eileen - it's amazing that these birds don't feel the cold. BBRR
How lovely. I'll surely be showing this to my honey when he gets out of bed. You can't help but be inspired by swans. We went to "Our Refuge" yesterday and saw some canvasbacks and a lonely shoveler who is one of my favorites. Happy bird watching. That's ONE good thing about Winter.
