Bright and early this morning there was a new bird call right outside the kitchen door and when I looked it was a smallish bird that looked just like a wren. We have house wrens nesting in our yard and I know all of their calls by heard now but this was something new.
    What I could see clearly:
    brownish red wren colour
    slightly curved beak
very narrow tail held up like a wren
sang with it's beak held up and neck puffed up (like our other wrens)
size, larger I'd say by an inch than our house wrens

    Song:
2 notes, soh doh soh doh soh doh pause, repeat and really really loud. (not necessarily soh and doh on the scale but there were only 2 pitches and they were about 4 or 5 tones apart)

I live near Toronto, Ontario very close to the lake and to a marsh (1/2 km away)

    Any suggestions?
I've listened to Cornell's great website of bird recordings and it wasn't any of the other wrens that could be in our area as regulars....Hmmmmmm

    Thanks!
(and no, I wasn't thinking quickly enough to get the camera!)

I have posted a Marsh Wren if you remember the one you saw.

    possible answer

I just discovered Naturecalls.com and found recordings of all of the wrens listed one after the next. This bird had to have been a wren and I think that it was a Carolina (due to our location). There is a recording which is similar in notes and clarity to the song I heard this morning. I'll hope he comes back tomorrow!
