What IS this??

    There are all manner of palm trees growing in Florida.....reminded me of when I lived in California! Anyway, while we were on vacation in the Keys, I noticed these growths on random palm trees here and there. I can't for the life of me figure out what they are? They look nothing like the palm fronds on the rest of the tree!

    My guess would be some type of air plant.

    That could be a Date Palm Tree and that side shoot is the beginning of it's fruit....Dates.

    I think Toni has hit it on the head. It looks like the tree is going to be producing dates in the not too distant future.:stew1:

    I believe that they are the palm's reproductive organs.
