A co-worker gave me a Curly Red Coral Bell (Heuchera Curly Red). It requires "no direct sunlight". The only place that I have like that is a little corner stand on the front porch. Or maybe a hanging planter from a tree. But from the tag, it's a "spreader".
I didn't want to seem ungrateful, so I gladly accepted it.
What can I (or what should I) do with it now? Will it survive in a container?

I don't find heuchera to be really spreading. and also i got one in a rather sunny spot. Close to a japanese quince shrub but the sun gets to it anyway. If you have trees, under one of them it should be OK if you can plant it there.

Send it to me :-D I am sure I have he perfect spot for this.

Seriously, I would plant it in the ground, not in a container or hanging basket. I have seen them being used in containers up here, but I think perennials do better in the ground.

Here in Wisconsin none of mine have spread so I guess it all depends on the conditions and where you have them planted. ..Good luck and I hope you find a place for it

Your plant, Heuchera Curly Red, is more tolerant of the sun as it's leaves are on the purple end of the spectrum. As you go toward the lighter colored leaves, the sun inhibits growth and the plant lacks the vigor found in its shaded cousins.

Cherylad it would do great in a planter. Like Jerry said some of them that have darker leaves do need more sun shine. :stew1:

Well.... one is going to be shaded more than the other. So, guess we'll find out how much sun they really like.

I have grown several Heucheras in containers, and they do quite well. I don't have Curly Red in my collection, now I'll be on the look out for it :)
