Didn't want to say "charity" in the subject line, as that's belittling the receiver of it. That's how I feel anyway, that if we are to give something to someone, do so in a way that doesn't make them feel small...

Okay, now the reason why I'm posting this, is that the annual Islamic month of Ramazan is just around the corner. So this is where in my part of the world everyone who is able to, must give 2.5% of their annual income to someone in need.

So some donate to a good cause. Some give to someone in need, (if they are able to find someone who's genuinely down in their luck). While others give to charitable organizations, and others make donations to hospitals.

However I don't want this thread to be about who gives to whom or what and how... I am facing a new dilemma. Which is, that what if I give to an organization, but whatever I give, they spend on paying their electricity bills and for renting their office? Whatever I give to hospitals will most probably go to pay for the salaries of their employees - So in the end, most likely 10% of whatever I give will reach the intended use.

So this is what's bothering me, how to give to the right place, which reaches the target in full force, (doesn't get used up in frivolous activities).

I have some ideas. Which I will share with everyone (in the interest of constructive brainstorming). But first I want to hear what all your opinions are about the dilemma I'm facing.

I would go out into the countryside and find a nice family that is in need and gift them the 2.5% donation. Perhaps a family with small children.
